In today's forecast, temperatures will warm up slightly.

Average temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s, up to 65 degrees in Santa Monica and down to 62 degrees for Riverside. Tonight's lows will drop into the low 40s, and into the upper 30s for the valleys. The lowest temperatures tonight will be in the Inland Empire — where a low of 34 degrees is expected overnight into Friday morning and also Saturday.

    Winter storm advisories

The National Weather Service has several advisories out, including a winter weather advisory for the northern Ventura County mountains until 10 a.m. Snow showers are coming down to elevations as low as 4,000 feet and moderate snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are expected. Wind gusts will reach up to 45 mph.

A frost advisory for the Inland Empire has been extended through Saturday morning as the overnight lows will continue to be in the mid 30s. Temperatures early this morning for Riverside and San Bernadino county valleys are in mid 30s, temperatures will drop again tonight into Friday morning and repeat overnight Saturday.

Remember to protect any outdoor plants as frost can damage or kill vegetation and don't leave pets outside at night.

    High surf and gusty winds

More high surf is expected to pound the California coastline, but the National Weather Service says waves won't be as strong as earlier in the week.

Breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet were forecast for the Central Coast with higher sets up to 18 feet possible.

For Ventura County, surf of 7 to 12 feet is in the forecast, and the Los Angeles coast is seeing surf of 5 to 10 feet, particularly in the South Bay.

Orange County is getting elevated surf of 4 to 6 feet, with local wave sets up to 7 feet through this evening.

San Diego County was expected to see breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet.

    High winds

Meteorologist Kristan Lund with the National Weather Service says some of the windiest spots are the western portion of L-A county in the San Gabriel Mountains

"We'll see 35 to 40 mph really peaking this morning might have another brief jump up this evening and then we have a high wind warning for theI-5 corridor area with winds 60 to 65 mph, really adjacent to higher elevations to the I-5 and Tejon Pass," Lund said.

It's also breezy in the San Fernando Valley. Van Nuys got gusts of 32 mph this morning.

Late Show with Stephen Colbert writer Michael Cruz Kayne brings his personal experience with grief to the Upright Citizens Brigade. In a “pared-down” version of the show he did to much acclaim at the Audible Theater in New York City in 2023, Kayne uses his standup style to help others come to terms with loss, and laughs along the way.
