At 5:30 a.m. this morning, the Lucky Boy on Arroyo in Pasadena reopened after being closed for two weeks due to a kitchen fire.

Southern California is peppered with tons of these casual burger-and-burrito joints but Lucky Boy is special.

It makes breakfast burritos that are almost as big as your head.

It has been around for 50-something years.

Its cooks will make you an order of onion rings or zucchini fries at 7 a.m., if that's your pleasure.

Lucky Boy has another Pasadena location, on Walnut St., but (full disclosure) that one is not a mere three blocks from LAist/KPCC headquarters.

In case it's not clear, we have a special love for Lucky Boy here at LAist.

Jose, of the A.M. kitchen crew, says the fire might have been a malfunction of the electrical system and/or too much grease in the fryer. Whatever it was, Lucky Boy has rebounded and the breakfast burritos are as meaty and massive as ever.
