The Weather Is Going To Keep Sucking This Week :(

With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

We here at LAist were born and raised in Southern California, and when it's not 78 degrees we start to malfunction. When it's 77, we shiver like the panna cotta from Bäco Mercat. When it's 79, we sweat like a beer mug in the upper deck at a Dodgers game. We are currently perspiring at a rate that will overflow the Silver Lake reservoir by Monday morning rush hour - it's 100 degrees across most of the eastside.

We wouldn't trade our weather for the rainstorms that are soaking our frenemies in New York City while they slip and trip down the subway stairs, but suffice it to say we are feeling some pain out here.

So we regret to inform you that it's still gonna be hot this week. Pretty frickin' hot. Especially for October. The National Weather Service says in Silver Lake you'll be coping with the mid 80s to low 90s this week. If you're out in Canoga Park, it'll be 90-plus through Wednesday, before you get a balmy 87 degree high on Thursday.

The only place that gets a break is Santa Monica, where residents will only get as hot as 82 degrees all week. But on the flipside, Santa Monica residents have to live in Santa Monica, and we wouldn't wish that on any of our readers or their loved ones.

Stay hydrated out there, Angelenos.

At LAist, we focus on what matters to our community: clear, fair, and transparent reporting that helps you make decisions with confidence and keeps powerful institutions accountable.

Today, on Giving Tuesday, your support for independent local news is critical. With federal funding for public media gone, LAist faces a $1.7 million yearly shortfall. Speaking frankly, how much reader support we receive now will determine the strength of this reliable source of local information now and for years to come.

This work is only possible with community support. Every investigation, service guide, and story is made possible by people like you who believe that local news is a public good and that everyone deserves access to trustworthy local information.

That’s why on this Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission. It just takes 1 minute to donate below.

Thank you for understanding how essential it is to have an informed community and standing up for free press.
