Video: Gavin Newsom Skewers The NRA On Netflix's 'Chelsea'

Remember Gavin Newsom? The Northern California native made many a headline a decade ago when he was elected as San Francisco's youngest mayor in a hundred years, and then started valiantly issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, in violation of the then-current state law. Despite being sworn in as Lieutenant Governor in January 2011, Newsom has remained relatively low-profile over the past few years, which will soon change, as he's running for governor in 2018.

Newsom also managed to seriously piss off the NRA with his "Safety for All Act of 2016," which would proposes background checks on ammunition sales. The Coalition for Civil Liberties, a sneakily-named NRA affiliate, responded with a truly bizarre ad released Wednesday that features a transgender character using a gun for self defense, and is reportedly targeted at California's LGBT population.

In an advance clip (see above!) from Chelsea, Chelsea Handler's new Netflix show, Newsom responds to the NRA video, skewering the gun group's faux-show of support for the LGBT community ("They've been leaders on transgender equality," he sarcastically intones), and engages in a passionate discussion with Handler on the need for gun control.

The episode, which also features rapper Wiz Khalifa, and Shark Tank investor and global IT security expert Robert Herjavec, will stream on Netflix starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

And here's another clip, featuring Newsom and Chelsea talking about what Hillary Clinton's nomination means to them:
