With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

The cocktail lounge of a popular downtown nightclub will soon transform into a far out take on a Tiki bar. Beginning in April, a new outer space and Tiki-inspired cocktail bar known as The Deep End will take over the lounge at Honeycut in the Financial District, according to Eater LA. More specifically, the lounge will be "post-Tiki," according to the teams behind the project, 213 Hospitality and Proprietors LLC, who also brought us the classy watering holes The Normandie Club and The Walker Inn. Few details about the bar have been revealed, but we do know that the bar will be open Sunday to Wednesday evenings.

It's easy to see where one could get totally spaced-out on the colorfully illuminated, disco dance floor of Honeycut, but the team behind The Deep End is taking things even further.

The Deep End team tells LAist, that they're looking to follow in the footsteps of Tiki legends follow in the footsteps of Donn Beach and Trader Vic, and expand the horizons of an immersive cocktail experience even further. Here's the description of the concept so far:

The secrets of the South Pacific have all been unlocked. With the allure of that frontier all but exhausted, the team asked themselves, how do we take our guests out beyond the furthest reaches imaginable? How can we curate an experience that does not exist, and may never exist at all? How can we take guests behind the curtain, show them the wizard, and in that moment reveal the infinite possibilities that keep our imaginations ever-piqued?

Right on, man. Sign us up for a ticket to this Polynesian voyage to the beyond.

Fear not, the disco portion of Honeycut will live on. The Deep End will just give visitors a chance to bravely venture into new cocktail territory.
