Some Guys Are Hiding Fake Vaginas Full Of Cash All Over L.A.

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

You might think that headline is misleading, but we assure you it is not. A couple of guys known for their pickup artist videos are hiding a bunch of cash—$10,000 in total—inside Fleshlights and hiding them all over L.A., scavenger hunt style.

In case you were unaware, a pickup artist is a guy who tries to help men who consider themselves unsuccessful with the ladies get girlfriends or find women who will have sex with them. They seem to operate on the logic that there are certain tricks that can build confidence and convince women to want to sleep with even the homeliest of men. Simple Pickup is one such group. They have articles like 'How to Send an Opening Text on Tinder' and 'How to Hook Up with Cowokers.'

In case you were unaware, the Fleshlight is a male masturbation product that looks kind of like a heavy-duty flashlight, but really houses a fake vagina then can be used for self-pleasure.

Fleshlight, according to a release, gave the Simple Pickup guys $10,000 to make a promotional video. This is a match made in pervert heaven. Guys who can't get laid on their own are the type of consumers both these groups need. What Simple Pickup decided to do, however, was stuff 200 Fleshlights full of money and hide them all over Los Angeles. While the exact locations of all the Fleshlights will be revealed October 25, clues will be released via their Twitter and other social media accounts before then. One of the location clues has already been posted.

Well, what can we say? The cringe-worthy nature of 'pickup artistry' aside, it definitely ups the ante on @hiddencash. Here's the video:

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
