Infographic Shows Where Los Angeles' Transplants Come From
It's time to rewrite your jokes about clueless transplants from the Midwest ruining our fair city. The biggest suppliers of out-of-state transplants are actually from our neighbors to the East: Arizona and Nevada.
The company Spokeo took a look at out-of-state area codes in different U.S. cities to figure out where their transplants are coming from. Here's how they did it: "By identifying the origin of a mobile number and matching it to address records, Spokeo has pinpointed migration and settlement trends throughout the United States."
Our biggest feeder states are from the west: Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Washington and Utah. Then comes the first entry from the Midwest (Illinois) and East Coast (New York).
Our top three cities for transplants were not what we would have guessed: Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas. This wasn't what I would expect, but Henderson natives should set me straight in the comment. Chicago, New York and Brooklyn rounded out the next three spots.
Finding out-of-state transplants for Los Angeles seems a little less interesting than it might be for cities in New York, which are much closer to other states (like Jersey and Connecticut) because it seems like a lot of non-natives (including this blogger repping the 661) seem to be from the Golden State anyway.
