Baby Chimp Killed by Adult Chimp in Front of Guests at L.A. Zoo

A baby chimpanzee was fatally attacked by an adult male chimpanzee today at the Los Angeles Zoo in an incident witnessed by zoo patrons. Zoo officials confirmed the death Tuesday afternoon, reports KTLA.
The baby chimp was born March 6 to mother Gracie, but did not yet have a name. The Zoo describes Gracie as a "caring mother."
When the baby chimp was born it was a special moment for the Zoo; the newborn was the zoo's first baby chimpanzee in 13 years. The baby brought the total of chimps at the Zoo to 15.
The Zoo also noted that they had not noticed any aggressive behavior towards the baby chimp on the part of other chimps.
