UCLA Hires Jim Mora, Jr.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero has hired Jim Mora, Jr. to replace Rick Neuheisel as head football coach of the Bruins. An announcement is due to come Saturday.

A two-time Rose Bowl defensive back with the University of Washington from 1980 to 1983, the 50-year old Mora followed his father's footsteps into coaching immediately after graduation spending the 1984 season as a graduate assistant with the Huskies. After coaching the secondaries of the San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers, he became the defensive coordinator of the 49ers under head coach Steve Mariucci from 1999 to 2003.

After Mariucci was fired he became the head coach of Atlanta Falcons in 2004where he helped lead the team to an 11-5 record and advanced to the NFC Championship Game losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in Philly. From there things went downhill for Mora with an 8-8 and 7-9 season before getting fired. He then landed in Seattle going 5-11 in his only season as head coach for the Seahawks in 2009.

Mora has since been in the broadcasting ranks where he memorably faced off against ESPN Radio's Doug Gottlieb on the airwaves.

Of course Mora comes from a great heritage of ranting coaches. Take his father Jim Mora:
