Jerry Brown or Meg Whitman: Who Won Tonight's Final Gubernatorial Debate?
Now that was a debate! It was lively, informative, had good back-and-forth and was nearly void of campaign slime (read: housekeeper and "whore" controversies). Topics and questions from veteran newsman Tom Brokaw included 1978's Prop 13, the current Prop 23, pensions reform, the capital gains tax, education, campaign funding, immigration, drug cartel violence, gay marriage, President Obama & Sarah Palin and reforming California's political structure (referendums, voting on budgets, etc).
Right after the broadcast, NBC said the two candidates were neck and neck in the latest Survey USA poll at 47% for Democrat Jerry Brown and 43% for Republican Meg Whitman. However, that survey has a 5% margin of error and concluded that 20% of voters are still undecided.
