LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 8-3. Kings captain Dustin Brown scores a hat trick and an assist to lead the Kings to their first victory over Vancouver in six games. More on this game in my complete recap later.

LA Galaxy defeats Chivas USA 2-0. It looks like Chivas’ scoring woes continue. More on this game from Angel.

Notable Notes

  • Former Laker and University of North Carolina alum Rick Fox posted one of the most absurd questions on Twitter today. “UNC in the NIT finals tonight… if we win the NIT and Duke loses in the Final Four who had the more successful year?” I don’t know if that’s an indictment of the state of public education in North Carolina in the early 1990’s or the fact that Fox was drafted by the Boston Celtics. Everyone knows the answer to that question. I wonder if there is any school that hangs banners for championships from the Not Invited Tournament. In the end it is completely moot since the Tarheels lost to the Dayton Fliers 79-68.
  • On Saturday trainer Bob Baffert’s Kentucky Derby prospect Lookin At Lucky will be racing the Grade I $750,000 Santa Anita Derby. The early 4-5 favorite will be among ten horses racing in his warm up for the Kentucky Derby where he is expected to be among the favorite in that field along with East Coast-based Eskendereya. The race will post around 2:40 pm and will be the sixth race of an 11-race program that will get underway at noon. It will also be televised on NBC on their “Racing to the Kentucky Derby” program along with Eskendereya’s race in the Aqueduct’s Grade I Wood Memorial.
