LAst Night's Action: Celtics Edge Lakers

Boston Celtics defeat LA Lakers 87-86. Without Kobe Bryant the Lakers lost a close one at the buzzer to the Celtics at home. The fourth quarter was all about defense with the Lakers outscoring the Celtics 17-11. Rougher than most Pac-10 football games, neither team would cede any ground to the other. But with two seconds left in the game and Kobe on the bench it was up to Derek Fisher to create his own shot for the win. While everyone stops dying of laughter, Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 22 points while Lamar Odom got a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards. All five Celtics starters scored in double digits.

USC Trojans defeat Washington Huskies 67-64.

Loyola Marymount Lions defeat #9 Gonzaga Bulldogs 74-66. This was LMU’s first win over a ranked team since that magical 1990 season with Hank Gathers.

Portland Pilots defeat Pepperdine Waves 83-62.

UCLA Bruins defeat Washington State Cougars 71-51.

  • Guess who’s back? After flirting with Jim Tracy and the Colorado Rockies for a little bit, former Dodgers Cy Young closer Eric Gagne will be coming back to where it all started. The 34 year old Gagne signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers which will earn him $500,000 in base salary and an extra $500,000 in performance-based incentives. There is an out clause in the contract if he doesn’t make the team.
  • The world’s most boring sexual deviant Tiger Woods will be poking his head out Friday morning to make a statement addressing his golf future and perhaps atoning for his so-called lurid sexual escapades.
