East of Sunset: Documentary Focuses on Silver Lake, Echo Park Music Scene

If you like music, you're going to see a lot of familiar faces seen in this trailer for East of Sunset, which has no set release date yet. We don't believe that West Hollywood's Sunset Strip is totally dead (it's been making a nice comeback over the past year), but we can't wait to see this flick, which is still in post-production with Thrillhouse Productions (h/t web in front).

Elliott Smith. Two t's. I'm angry.

a true offense ... piteous, in fact.

Finally something giving credit to the music out here instead of all the Brooklyn stuff! I'm pretty sure they mean East of the Sunset Strip...Cool name either way!

that looks excellent. I think I've seen at least half of those bands. Can't wait for that to come out.

HOLY CRAP I JUST GOT CHILLS!!!! THis looks AWESOME. Superb trailer. Love how they ended it with The Movies's music.

I'm excited to see this too! These bands are a big reason I live in the area even if I don't go out as much as I used to.

Can I also point out this other documentary for Kiss or Kill, just another small slice of the Echo Park / Silver Lake scene from 2003-2007? Most of these bands are long gone but this area continues to grow great new bands every year.

Kiss or Kill documentary

I know at least 4 of these bands on a personal level and it warms my heart to see they are finally getting the recognition they so deserve.

Can't wait for this to come out!

looks like a great documentary on the music scene in and around silver lake and echo park...

looks like they got their los angeles geography all twisted though... since sunset itself runs east/west. being east of sunset means you're on cesar chavez ave.

I believe that it is to be taken metaphorically and not literally ... but yes, you are correct.

seeing that A: they didn't spell Elliott Smiths' name correctly and B: they don't know that street names change at a certain point, I'm pretty sure these are not LA bred folks that put this together.

It would be nice to see someone homegrown from the neighborhood do a doc on bands that have at least 75% of its members born in southern california...come to think of it...that may make for a very short doc..probably lasting about 2 minutes tops including credits.

Looks great but shouldn't it be called East on Sunset? he he In all seriousness cant wait to check it out!
