We mentioned this in an earlier post, but are breaking it out because of e-mails and questions thrown at us.
In Hollywood, fans have gathered around the star of the other Michael Jackson, a radio personality, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1541 Vine. St. Nearby at 1500 Vine St. is The Jacksons' star where people are encouraged to remember him because the pop star's individual one at 6927 Hollywood Blvd., in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater, is unaccessible because of the Bruno movie premiere. Flowers will be placed there at 9 a.m. by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

It reminds me of people who went out and waited in line to sign some book for Princess Diana. A radio personality went out and told them over the air that they were all insane and a riot almost ensued. These people deserve the same.

There was something tragically funny about the fan on Fox 11 sitting in front of said star sobbing and saying he was too upset to talk; not knowing he wasnt even at the correct star (the symbol on it is the indicator). Well, that and on AMP Radio the DJ was reading Michael Jackson's kids names verbatim from a web source and referred to the last child as Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.
The Today show was all set up in front of the Chinese theater this morning. I get on the red line at Hollywood and Highland and the entire north side of Hollywood Blvd between Highland and orange was lined with news trucks. Some people already had wreaths and flowers at the star.
My parents used to listen to talk radio in the car when I was a kid, so I know this Michael Jackson, too. And, as members of the Trojan family know, there's yet another Michael Jackson to keep properly indexed in our minds, VP for Student Affairs at USC. Used to love finding informative administrative-type emails in my inbox from Michael Jackson. Always made me double-take.
I think such crowds are the sign of a vastly disconnected populace, with fame as a deity surrogate.
(BTW: Those microphones are going to get quite saturated with germs. Eww.)
