4.7 Rattler Rumbles L.A.

Picture 5.png
The epicenter of the quake was in Lennox, 10 miles from Downtown Los Angeles
Now, hasn't it just been too quiet in Southern California? Were you not just asking about when the next earthquake was going to hit? We have our answer. A 4.7 (originally estimated by sensors as 5.0) struck at 8:39 p.m., 10 miles SSW of Downtown L.A. in Lennox, a suburb just feet from Inglewood. We are getting reports that people have felt the quake from Santa Monica to Glendale. How was your Sunday evening shake? UPDATE: It was followed by two microquakes--3.1 and 1.6--at 8:45 p.m. and 9:46 p.m., respectively. Also, a 2.5 struck at 8:44 p.m. in El Segundo. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported no immediate damage or injuries, but recommended you review disaster preparedness info. UPDATE 2: The LA Times has a photo of broken glass at a Starbucks--one person was reportedly sent to the hospital.

Saw it on http://twitter.com/earthquakesLA

There's a cool Twitter bot I just found while searching for people freaking over the quake. It tweets every time there is an earthquake near LA. (For anyone out there who's into that sort of thing) http://twitter.com/earthquakesLA

Felt like how the Rockets got stomped on today.

OK... maybe not that bad, but I'm sure everyone understands what I'm getting at.

Tried searching it on twitter...and it's not giving me recent tweets. Everything is from over an hour a go. Anyone else having that problem?

felt it in los feliz. not super fun.

I got a phone call from a friend in San Diego, she felt it down there.

Standing on the sidewalk in the Cahuenga Pass and didn't feel a thing. Then got calls/texts from Studio City, Los Feliz and 3rd/La Brea asking what was up.

Quite mild up here in Granada Hills.

They're getting us ready for the big one... little by little until the big one hits...

felt a little rolling rumble over here in Walnut

Felt it in Boyle Heights, mildly so, but freakishly terrifying nonetheless.

I was playing drums on rock band online when it happened and my friend in the valley kept playing. I stood up next to my door.

Was mildly awful in Venice. It seemed relatively long. Felt the aftershock as well. Good times.

Moderate shaking for 20 seconds in Santa Monica (beachside). Felt like the 5.4 Chino Hill EQ back in July 08. Nothing broken but enough to send the cat fleeing under the bed.

I felt the quake and I live in Imperial Beach right before the TJ border. I imagine it was felt as far as Mexico.

I second Cross Kat's response for how it felt in Venice. It was enough to get this native up off the couch and away from the window and grab my wine glass so it wouldn't fall off the table. And I kinda wondered if I should be concerned about a tsunami (which I've become pretty paranoid about since moving to Venice).

I grabbed my wine glass, too! A few weeks ago, my parents took quite the delight in telling me that I live in a tsunami zone. Thanks, mom and dad. Earthquakes still worry me more.

Felt nothing at the Troubadour. Hooray for mega bass. I thought it was part of the show.

Report is that it was the Newport-Inglewood fault which was the one that cause the 1933 Long Beach quake.

A pictorial example of which is documented in this pic.

I'm downtown and it was pretty scary in my 5th floor (out of 7) industrial loft style building. I'd say that took me about 80% of the way to shrieking like a school girl.

I also second Cross Kat's response. A long rumble here in Venice.

jeez are you all transplants?

it was a mild earthquake.

chilllllllllllllll oooouuutttttt.

It's LA - there is approximately a 75% chance that yes, we are all transplants. TAKE THAT OG ANGELENOS!

@ross

hahahahaha

good one

:D

The room was a rockin' in Sherman Oaks. No one came a knockin'.

It's not your looks Caleb, don't worry.

Ha great timing on this one, I was watching the 7:30 Star Trek at The Bridge! "These vibrating movie seats are AMAZING!!"

We felt in here in Hollywood. The house was rolling. The kids jumped out of their beds and met me in the hall. Then we checked twitter.

You could have just opened a window. You would have heard me screaming "Oh Dear Me! We're Doomed!" from Santa Barbara, and you'd have known for sure.

(note: I mean people in SB would have heard me - I was in Boyle Heights.)

all the customers/ beer drinkers at SNow White's Cafe felt it.

I felt it in pico union.

Fun Fact, the Newport-Inglewood-Baldwin Hills Fault is responsible for Signal Hill, Dominguez Hills (however the fault did not start the CSU that shares the name), and the Baldwin Hills. The fault separates the West and Central Groundwater Basins. The fault ultimately runs up to Beverly Hills. Does anyone know about geographical features the fault has created in the OC? Did it make the hills near Newport Beach?

I was seeing a Jean Harlow double feature at the Egyptian and the earthquake happened during the first film (Bombshell). Everyone sort of looked around for a minute, but we were fine. The building survived, the electricity didn't go out. When I got home I found my gas was still on and the AC units hadn't fallen out of my windows or anything.

We were at Disneyland, and they shut down all rides until safety crews could inspect for damage. This took over 2 hours in most cases, and as a result we missed out on all the popular rides we'd been saving for the end of the day when the crowds thin out (Space Mtn, Matterhorn, Nemo Subs, etc) Interestingly, they made no announcements over the speaker system to let people know what was going on.

We were in the Buzz Lightyear ride when the earthquake hit, and didn't feel a thing

Kampy - we were at Disneyland, too, and none of the 4 people in my group felt a thing! Maybe our bodies were still feeling all herky-jerky after Indiana Jones, which we had just left...who knows. We were probably in the gift shop when it happened...good timing, I guess, since we were heading home anyways!

Felt it over in Echo Park- that was my very first one, it was such a mild rolling I just thought my neighbors were having sex or something.
