- The race for LA's city attorney is getting really heated and nasty. Tonight candidates Carmen Trutanich and Jack Weiss will be debating on Warren Olney’s Which Way, LA? at 7:30 p.m. on 89.9 KCRW.
- Stimulus money up in Livermore is being questioned--some don't believe the transparency: "More than $115 million in federal stimulus spending purportedly aimed at producing clean fusion energy at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is viewed by insiders and other experts as a weapons program with little likelihood producing electricity during the next decade -- if ever."
- A taco truck shooting near Inglewood last night left one dead and five injured.
- A downtown favorite, The Pantry just celebrated their 85th birthday. blogdowntown sums it up best in a headline: "The Original Pantry Celebrates 85 Years of No Major Changes."
- More on the Getty raising their parking fees. The New York Times observes that "For a hilltop museum with no public parking nearby and in a city with limited public transportation, the parking increase is practically the same as an admission fee.". And Kevin Roderick at LA Observed opines: "So the fact remains, what is free to do at LACMA — stroll the grounds, browse in the gift store or take in the view — will cost $15 at the Getty on July 1 and raise anew the elitism questions.
- Disappearing mailboxes? After receiving numerous complaints, Westside Congressmen Henry Waxman puts the post office to tasks on why they're going away.
- Tori Amos is at it again with another California lyric based song and she's giving the download away for free. It's dedicated to moms for Mother's Day, but really, it's for y'all.
- The latest set of public meetings for the "Subway to the Sea" have come and gone. But if you have input, Metro will take it: "If you were not able to attend the scoping meetings, you can find a copy of the presentation by going to our study website, www.metro.net/westside, click on 'News and Info.' We will accept comments throughout the study, but we must hear from you by next Thursday, May 7th, 2009 for comments that relate to scoping."
