This Saturday: '9 of the Most Cutting Edge Dance Companies in Los Angeles'

For the fourth year running, "impresaria" Jamie Nichols is presenting what she calls "9 of the most cutting edge dance companies in Los Angeles" for one performance only, this Saturday, March 14th in Celebrate Dance at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale.With a program that includes many of the recent winners of LA's concert dance Oscars (aka the Lester Horton Awards), these short works are in the various and sundry styles of movement based performing arts. This includes ballet, modern, jazz, breakdancing, Brazilian dance, and a hybrid thereof (ballet, circus skills, hyper rock and deep spirit). The whole evening seems diversely engaging and promising enough to satisfy anyone in the audience.
The companies and choreographers on the bill include festival returnees Bradley Michaud's METHOD Contemporary Dance (whose own show I reviewed earlier this year) and Jacob "Kujo" Lyons' inspiring hybrid Lux Aeterna Dance Company. Also on the lineup are
• nationally recognized Keith Johnson and Dancers,
• contemporary jazz RhetOracle Dance Company (under the direction of Nathan Hodges),
• Deborah Rosen and Dancers' world premiere of an all female Giunone (with live original music),
• former Joffrey Ballet dancer Josie Walsh's eclectic urban company MyoKyo,
• Viver Brasil Dance Company,
• Holly Johnston & Ledges & Bones Dance Project and
• Choreographer Erin Holt's California Contemporary Ballet.
It looks like a long night, but definitely one filled with eye popping surprises and radiant energy!
