The above clip is from today's taping of NBC's "The Tonight Show". In it Leno gives a kind of a weak explanation of how he renewed his contract with NBC to create a "cleaned up" version of "The Tonight Show" at 10:00pm, thus providing NBC with three hours of comedy/entertainment talk shows every weeknight. Somehow NBC just can't say "no" to the lantern-jawed man from New Rochelle, NY, and this inability to say "no" might very well undermine the efforts of Conan O'Brien on "The Tonight Show" and Jimmy Fallon on "Late Night".

I couldn't even watch the whole clip. Awful!
What an asshole. He's totally going to screw with Conan's ability to book guests. Why book the big guests on the 11:35 show when they can be on at 10? He couldnt just retire and work on his cars?
I noticed he was hitting the same talking points, verbatim, on MSNBC tonight and in the press conference today. Blah.
This is the stupidest mistake in a long line of stupid mistakes that NBC has made. I think he'd be fine doing a once-a-week show, but this will bomb within a season. Hopefully Conan can survive.
come on...can't we all agree here that the biggest travesty of all is that jimmy fallon now hosts a late night show?
FYI...Leno's actually from Andover, MA.
And you've got Jeff Zucker to blame - or thank - for this.
Leno and Conan do a good tag-team as it is. They typically book the same guests days apart already. I know I'll get flack for this, but I liked Carson Daly's Last Call when it first started in New York. It was just him, a guest, two simple black chairs on an empty stage and half an hour of intelligent conversation. It was kind of like Charlie Rose but with a different slate of guests.
All that matters in this (late-night) world is Jimmy Kimmel. Goodnight.
@TheRealZajac, you just used "Carson Daly" and "intelligent conversation" together. And then compared him to Charlie Rose.
The best comparison I can make to the Carson Daly show is that SNL skit, the Chris Farley Show.
For intelligent conversation, nothing beat Politically Incorrect.
I know that Leno pulls good ratings, but I never hear people talking about him. This just seems so out of touch.
Ugh. I don't know how anyone considers Leno to be good entertainment. Conan seriously got screwed. This is an absurd choice on NBC's part. I can't imagine how they think 10 p.m. audiences want to hear him talk--maybe the first few weeks, but can they sustain it?
What do they plan on doing with a 10 p.m. drama like Law & Order: SVU?
Creativity: RIP.
Good point about Jimmy, Zach! I supported him from day one when he couldn't even book guests from ABC shows...
I feel like I want to set my tivo to record everything on NBC except Leno to prove a point.
Check out the "coverage" on Borowitz Report. HILARIOUS:

let it go, leno.
just let it go.
I can't believe someone just used "intellegent" in the same sentence as Carson Daly. Carson is such as bad interviewer. He always seems unsure of himself. Especially in the early years of his show.
for NBC to keep their audience base of 65-90 year olds...which wouldn't dare watch conan since he is too "crazy" put keep leno at 10 since the seniors will be asleep by 11 anyway.
btw..who cares? i have not seen one person be upset with the fact they are getting rid of whatever it is they show at 10 pm on the weekdays. Wouldn't that be the first point up for discussion?
also..NBC may want it to llok like al they did was move all shows up one hour earlier..
also...now that almost all the talk shows on NBC are filmed on the west coast...does that mean they will still go live to the east coast and be edited by the time we see them?
like as if anyone on the east coast is gonna watch conan when he moves here anyway....when he does come to LA....he should bring back Andy Richter....then we will return to the good ol days of Johnny Carson and Ed McMan.
