"The Los Angeles Mormon Temple in Westwood, which was the target of recent protests by opponents of Proposition 8, has been closed because temple employees received an envelope filled with an unidentified white powdery substance, according to a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," reports ABC7 who says a similar letter was sent to the Salt Lake City Mormon temple. UPDATE, 5:32 pm: NBC4 says this is an FBI investigation and people are sheltered in place inside the temple. UPDATE #2, 6:00 p.m.: NBC4 reports that the situation is over and the powder is not harmful.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they sent it to themselves in order to hurt the image of people protesting the ban.
I really hope whoever behind this is NOT doing it in the name of overturning 8. And hallmonitor may be on to something. It is bad for either/both sides regardless.
Check it out folks.
Hallmonitor has broken the case. No need for further investigation.
Move along.
Shut it down permanently and make it a mall
i thought it before i saw that hallmonitor wrote it.
even if not, the movement and protests have been 99.9% peaceful. there will always be loonies on either side of a contentious debate such as this.
but the white powder thing is soooooo seven years ago.
Really? Because the first thing I thought was how funny it would be if someone did this to them every single day.
Too bad this post will keep me from a high-level position inside the Obama administration.
My girlfriend works at a building with a lot of talk radio stations and they get death threats and fake powder and stuff all the time from people who disagree, and sometimes it might be from the side that agrees to make the other side look bad. People there take it in stride and go get a coffee while they confirm it's a hoax.
