Moving into the third and final weekend of REDCAT's New Original Works Festival, the program is at its most varied--music, dance and performance art. Included in this evening of innovative projects are alumni of previous REDCAT productions Anne LeBaron (with Douglas Kearney) and Rosanna Gamson/World Wide with one woman bundle of fury and fun Kristina Wong!
Award-winning composer Anne LeBaron and poet/writer Douglas Kearney present a theatrical song cycle they call Sucktion, telling the story of a woman’s cyber-erotic transformation from abject housewife into a self-sufficient cyborg. Written for the ensemble soNu, Sucktion features a female vocalist supported by percussion, laptop and a musical appliance--a subversive vacuum cleaner.
Gamson, who last year added an interactive media element to her choreographic explorations, digs deep into her own personal Polish Jewish history in Tov. Combining this ancestral voyage with the fate of the tarpan horse, the new piece examines reinvention, regeneration and the groundless optimism invoked by the phrase “Gamzu l’tovah,” or “This too is for the good.”
Ms. Wong aims her incisive wit and frightening mind at the existence of the Cat Lady as she bends the parallel worlds of the pathetically lonely and those characters living at the margins of gender and society. Touching on topics like inter-species betrayal, reality TV, animal psychics and aggressive pick-up artists, there is probably no safe place to be when this earthquake-waiting-to-happen takes the stage.

Kristina Wong is a delightful person!
I had the pleasure of doing some political street theater with her some years ago. She is intellegent, has a great sense of humor, and loves to use sarcasim and irony to make a point.
Unfortunately I haven't made it out to see any of her shows yet, but I'm hoping to make this one!
