Rockin' Long Beach's Pike Bar

A good hangout can be hard to find, so for anyone who finds themselves looking for nightlife in Long Beach, LAist's Photo contributor Michael Zampelli (aka rink_rat on Flickr) suggests The Pike Bar & Fish Grill. He tells us: "The Pike Bar in Long Beach is owned by the original drummer of Social Distortion and you can feel the vibe from the minute you cross the welcome mat with the Social D. skeleton logo and hear the first blast of punk rock from the jukebox. There is free live music nearly every night and the real surprise is the kitchen, which churns out gourmet quality food from mushroom tacos to authentic pasta to the crispiest and most delicate beer-battered fish you've ever tasted." (Check out the menu here.)

LAist Contributor Elise Thompson also visited the Pike Bar a few months ago.

I want some Fish & Chips!

I want mushroom tacos!

The Mushroom Tacos were extremely tasty. I was wearing my LA Derby Dolls shirt which invited a conversation with derby girl Estro Gen and her two Angel City Derby Girl friends. also, it ends up I knew the waitress from working out with Your Next Victory. Very nice hometown feel. Enjoyed the band too.

I noticed that they have lobster tacos while looking at the menu online just now. That will be next conquest on the agenda for sure. I'm making up my playlist for iPod Sunday!

It's alright.

Hey, this is like deja vu, of course the pike is worth mentioning more than once. I believe there was a foodie and club review a few months back....ah, here it is. http://laist.com/2008/05/15/the_pike_no_not.php?gallery571Pic=6#gallery
The fish and chips are the size of my head.

And folks, Long Beach has some amazing dive bars....just roll along 4th St.

Has someone done the old Prospector.

I'm working my way up to the Prospector ;)
