Eye Nosh: There's Hot Dog Somewhere Under That

"I cannot even begin to describe the ecstasy involved in the consumption of this greasy food product," Marshall Astor said of his Chili Dog from the Original Tommy's on Rampart. It is "like God's own Chili Dog."

evil.
pure evil :)
Evil but oh so tasty!!
Tommy's dogs are guilty pleasures to be sure. I need one now.
Oh man! Tommy's chili will put a hole in your stomach.
ok so tommy's:
great l.a. memory for me, driving home DRUNKITY DRUNK from a party in Venice (??) with a bunch of UCLA math grad students and former Berkeley High grads: stopped at Tommy's on Lincoln just before it closed and attacked one of those dogs. with my ex-roommate and ex-boyfriend, two obviously poignant relationships.
so basically that picture is exactly that night, because that's exactly what I ate with them.
and it's still one of the best meals I've ever had.
wow. drinking and driving is bad.
I wasn't the one driving, you stupid fucking dickball. Thanks for ruining my nice little story though.
NOW you're showing some good taste Carrie!!!
(gotny ketchup?)
hahahah
I'm actually a mustard person when it comes to hot dogs. I am torturing myself looking at this thing.
And I actually went and got my first Tommy's chili dog last night for dinner after seeing this picture. So. Damn. Good.
I'm confused. How were you not driving when you clearly said you were. In not sure if I can trust your story now if its already got all these holes. Are you sure it wasn't a wienerschnitzel?
just come clean.
There was mustard, somewhere under all that chili. Oh, and never eat chili dogs after 11 at night when you have to wake up at 6 in the morning to do yoga. That was a mistake.
I wrote a longer review of this dog here, for those interested.
I'm a mustard person too when it comes to hot dogs. This makes me want to either make the trek to tommy's or settle for a QT's Chicago dog (on woodman and ventura!)
Ali, you know it! Gotta love that QT's Chicago Dogs does veggie dogs. Love, it. LOVE IT.
Marshall, in your review you call the Original Tommy's chili a mystery.
Not so much so if you think about it. Actually it's good kitchen management. You may have noticed that Original Tommy's always has a few burger patties cooking on the grill to facilitate speedy service. Naturally when business hits a lull some of these are destined to become overcooked. Rather than throw those patties away, they came up with an extra topping that they could use those overcooked hamburger patties on and no one would notice.
Viola! Chili!
JRB - don't take my "mystery" descriptor as a negative. All chili is the result of good kitchen management, but I always find Tommy's to have a super mysterious quality. I think it has some kind of binder in it that gives it a specific viscosity that I find unusual and seductive.
portillos is awesome.
"think it has some kind of binder in it that gives it a specific viscosity that I find unusual and seductive."
Yep! Eat it in the AM and you're tasting it the rest of the day!
Tommy morning burger! Before 11am it comes with sausage and egg.
