Deacon Booze: Westside Edition

This story is free to read because readers choose to support LAist. If you find value in independent local reporting, make a donation to power our newsroom today.

Devoted LAist reader Ashley requested a Westside version of Deacon Booze -- and as a former long-time resident of the Westsiiiiiiiiide, I'm more than happy to oblige. Here are some of my top spots for drinks in West LA -- (and trust me when I say I have TESTED these places more than a few times). Why not email me your picks for when you find yourself west of the 405? carrie@laist.com. Did I tell you love email? I sure do. Sigh. [Hits refresh.] Siiiiigh. [Refresh. Refresh.] SIIIIIIIIGGHHHH.

  • Finn McCool's, Santa Monica: 3-7pm Mondays through Saturdays. $3 drafts, bottled beers, well drinks, house wines, and appetizers. Also, who doesn't love the Fenian Cycle? That's right, NOBODY!
  • Border Grill, Santa Monica: Monday through Friday, 4pm to 7pm, drinks like margaritas, mojitos and imported beers are $4, and munchies such as quesadillas and green corn tamales are all $3. And that's not all -- Border Grill has a late night Happy Hour from 10pm-1am on Fridays and Saturdays as well.
  • Palomino, Westwood: M-F 4-7. Drinks are basic beer and wine for $3, with other discount options as well. Food: small pizzas from the wood-burning ovens are just $5 each, and bar food such as calamari or shrimp is all half-priced, about $6-7 per appetizer.

More awesome Westside spots to come next week....

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
