A pretty damn good cd came out on Tuesday, the soundtrack to a film about Kurt Cobain called About a Son. The soundtrack has no music from Cobain or any of his bands, instead it's mostly music he was listening to from bands he was fans of.
Very few bands had as much influence on Kurt than the Melvins, and very few bands had as much college radio street cred the years before Nirvana broke than Mudhoney.
Both the Melvins and Mudhoney are on About a Son, and Saturday the two bands play together at the Henry Fonda. We want you to go.
Find out what hoops we will make you jump through after the jump.
All you have to do is
a) be a registered commentor - if you're not registered it takes seconds and its safe free and easy
b) tell us what your favorite LAist post was this summer
c) make sure that your email address is what you will be looking at Friday afternoon cuz we're gonna email 1 lucky wiener at 2:22pm and that person will only have 22 minutes to write us back or we will email someone else.
So go through the archives, or think real hard and tell us 1 story that you totally loved, and put it in the comments. Friday we will pick someone at random and email them. Saturday's the show at the Fonda in Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd.

i loved fred camino's guest editor day.. specifically his steps to becoming a metro rider. boom.
I was gonna say, "Living in sin - Magic Melons" but that "Mugshot Mania" post has had me rolling for days.
I gotta say the RJ wins hands down. Sex always does it for me!
I don't want tickets or anything, I just wanted to say that the Melvins are the LOUDEST BAND I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE saw them perform at Royce Hall a few years back in conjunction with some crazy ass documentaries about male rage and let's just say my eardrums have never been the same since.
the angelino heights neighborhood project was great.
"Someone Needs to Kick Doc Martens in the Ass" ... cuz it's kind of related. and true.
I loved all the Spoon coverage. All 9 of them.
No ordinary show, this one: Melvins are performing "Houdini" and Mudhoney are doing "Superfuzz Big Muff Plus Early Singles." And Flipper. This is shaping up to be one of the finest headaches of the year.
The Watts neighborhood project was my most favorite-ish.
any post about food.
but probably the the one about the hollywood farmers market cuz i had forgotten how great that place is and i went the next weekend and ate a gigantic crepe.
YUM.
Are those tickets still available? I checked my email at 2:22 and there was nothing. Please let me know. Thanks.
