The Adam Carolla Show Doesn't Suck

CarollaWhen Howard Stern left the airwaves, many of us in LA were too cheap, or too lazy, or too broke to follow him to Sirius. Adam Carolla took over, coming from years of experience in radio, and a frequent guest on the Stern show when it was on KLSX. Adam has since built his following, fine tuned the show, and is kicking ass in morning radio.

That isn't to say it has been a completely smooth ride. Adam's show has had it's rearrangements, most recently adding Danny Bonaduce, a former child star, radio veteran, and certifiable nutjob. But the new combo, including Teresa Strasser, has proven its weight in comedy gold. Just read his brief encounter with Ann Coulter.

Popular bits include "Angel Adam and Devil Danny" where Adam and Danny give advice from their extremely different points of view, "Mr. Brightside" where adam finds the positive outlook to the callers' most horrible scenarios, "Ozzie's Movie Reviews" where Adam's gardener gives a extremely thick accented review, "Rich Man/Poor Man" where callers call in with things like "wearing pajamas all day long" which is something only the super rich and the super poor seem to be able to do, "What can't Adam complain about?" which is basically the opposite of "Mr. Brightside", and many more.

Some people will argue and say, "Adam's show sucks balls compared to Howard's show!" because it's true. But that's like complaining that every NBA player isn't as good as Jordan. Duh. But Adam Corolla is funny, his show is better than most other radio shows, it's one of the few Stern repacements to survive, and it's free and easy to listen to, unlike Sirius.

I love Adam Corolla. I often wonder if I'm the only person who switches between Morning Edition and Adam Corolla in the mornings....

Adam Corolla is the man. I don't even know why they brought on Danny Bonaduce. He's pretty annoying. To tell you the truth, I stopped listening in the mornings because his voice was too damn annoying that early.

Adam always cracked me up on Loveline. Some girl calls in saying her boyfriend just broke up with her or something and he'd make fun of her. Insensitive but making light of a harmless situation.

I am a recent switcher to the Adam Corolla show considering the Kevin and Bean show is completely retarded at times. However, Danny Bonadouche-bag (heyo!) seriously needs to stop directing every topic of conversation back to himself.

Corolla sucks. Stern sucks. I often puzzle over who would even bother with the radio in this age of CDs, iPods, Podcasts, Books on CD, etc...

I was expecting a cornucopia of endless radio choices when I moved to LA. Nope--same bland shit as the red states.

The only stations worth a shit play soul music. That holds true no matter where you may find yourself in America.

Cornucopia of endless radio choices? haha. Well, you done give yourself away there. If you weren't sure, there are a limited amount of stations possible on regular radio because of these things called radio wavelengths. You might have also been dismayed to find out that you were listening to things that you listened to in whatever unfortunate red state you came from but in all likelihood, that radio show was either taped here (or NYC) and syndicated to enlighten those like yourself over yonder. Thus, when you got here, it seemed like you were already familiar with it all. No biggie.

You want lots of choices, get HD or Sirius or XM. ... or just read the newspaper.

Ben Bang,
For me the radio is superior to ipods, or CD's, and podcasts, ect. BECAUSE it's a communal experience. When i listen to an ipod or a CD, i'm on my own. But if i'm listening to the radio, i know there are thousands of others enjoying it with me. Including friends, family, and coworkers.

Radio is known as a "secondary medium" or "background medium", meaning that people often enjoy the radio while doing other things (like working, driving, ect.) And because of that many of my friends and i talk "around the watercooler" about what so-and-so radio guy said, like the way other people talk about the last episode of 24, or american idol.

Also having worked with day laborers for years, including whites blacks hispanics and asians, i can tell you that none of them could ever afford much more than a radio. MAYBE a cassette player walkman.

And I back you, radio isn't what it could be in LA... And even if it was kicking ass (which it is not) there is always room for improvement.

But if you don't like Stern or Corola, i understand, it's not your cup of tea. But i argue that if either of them truly sucked, they'd be out of work.

I got three words, David Lee Roth.

Guest #5, you give yourself away with your tone. Far be it from your sophisticated Orange County ass to embelish a point. I understand the radio wavelenghth. It's as finite as the hairs on your ever-balding head.

All good points Anti... I still think the "talent" on radio is pretty fuckin' third rate, though.

And as someone who has ridden the subway to work for a couple of years, I gotta disagree about peoples and their discman, ipods, etc... that shit practically transcends economic status in the age of $10 taiwanese knockoffs... been to a swap meet lately?

I hadn't thought of the communal aspect of radio, though I think that hardly elevates it to superior status. But I can see the appeal now. Hard to believe I was a DJ for two years in college and never thought any of this through.

Back to #5. The syndicated shite I'm used from back home is Rick and Bubba, which was not taped on either coast and was, in fact, broadcast from the south and syndicated elsewhere. You just thank your lucky toupee that you didn't have to grow up with that level of aural torment.

for the record, Bubba is a genius, and is indeed from FL.

Adam Carolla made me realize how dumb Stern really was. The show is smart, and I always get a laugh on my drive to work. When the show goes to commercial, I switch to Morning Edition.

I gave carolla a chance but sweet jesus people, his show is terrible. who the hell wants to wake up each morning to his anger and rants? I dont want some guy yelling at me first thing in the morning. Kinda sets the wrong tone for the day. Bonaduce is an attention whore who constantly injects the "me" into his tails, i dont know who carolla puts up with him. and when they rant on gays, it makes it unlistenable. in fact the only show worth listening to on that station is leykis. i can handle his rants at the end of my day.

Alright. Listen, I know I'm a little late to the party on this one but I just have to say....Adam Corolla SUCKS!!!!! Yes, he sucks. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading people say he's good or funny or whatever. I will admit that I'm somewhat jaded being a 10+ year Stern listener, but the fact still remains. His whole show is a watered down copy of Howard's. If you ever listened to Howard you already know this. I mean, his whole format is the same. The female news/ sidekick Teresa Strausser? Robin Quivers. The male comedy sidekick: It was Bonnaduche, now it's the quasi gay Talk Soup guy. Stern: Jackie/ now Artie. Even the games are complete rip offs from Howard. It's all good though, Corolla will never be as good as Howard and though he might say that he's not trying to be, the fact is that he could never be.

I guess it all comes down to why would I want to listen to cheap imitator or the real deal? Corolla is simple minded humor for the simple minded. Get mad but it's true. If your upset, I'm probably talking about you.

Baba-booie to you all!
