West Hollywood Gay Bar Micky's Badly Burned in Fire
Because no one was seriously injured in this afternoon's fire in West Hollywood, it's probably ok to bust with some tasteless jokes.
But we wont lower ourselves to that level. In fact we won't even snicker that the fire started at 4:30pm, mere minutes after the infamous 420 which many in WeHo celebrate.
(Here in EaHo we celebrate it too)
Instead we will simply run this photo sent to us by Scott from Boi From Troy, and quote a source from the mainstream media, even though they usually blow.
A fire broke out at Micky's on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood on Tuesday afternoon."I would totally be blogging this [story about the fire] but BoiFromTroy is in the final stages of a total revamp, prompted by a Denial of Service/Malicious attack and other evil gremlins, and a change of server," Scott wrote in an email to LAist. "In all of this, I remembered the bar's theme for its fire-truck Pride Float this year... 'West Hollywood's FLAMING gay bar.'"Santa Monica Boulevard was shut down in the area, so fire crews could get to the blaze.
The flames from the fire shot through the two story building's roof. Dozens of firefighters reported to the blaze, with some going on the roof of the building to battle the flames. KABC

Maybe it's the paranoia talking, but it makes me consider the possibility of homophobic intent. What better way to say "burn in hell" than to burn down the place?
When, if, it's rebuilt/sold. They should call it "Karma," though it saddens me for the loss of their employees source of income. The owners, Michael and Lann, are very selfish and greedy people for which I have no remorse. And Maryann, the GM, is unfortunitely a victim to their crude and despicable ways. Meet karma, my friends, meet karma.

OK i wont even touch the fact you were frothing at the mouth to make gay panic jokes... i mean gays, flames, fires... i get it... we all do. i think one would WANT to refrain from being a hack but maybe that's just me... but what really made my eyes roll was the overreaching in finding a link between weed and the time of the fire... i'm speechless actually. i mean gays are synonymous with many things but i wouldn't say that's one of them. i would say at this point weed is probably the lowest common denominator amongst anyone under the age of 40... and you are special 'cause i'm guessing you're over 40.
If gays want to denounce homophobia and make the case that they're just like the breeders except that they screw each other, is strutting their stuff in Fruit 'o the Looms really the best way to make it?
Combined with the "flaming" tagline... too easy a mark for the evangelical set to even touch that one.

where did we say that 420 was a gay thing? we said that it was a WeHo thing, and we were alluding to the fact that WeHo has been targeted recently by the Feds in regards to their 420 ways, specifically in regards to their medical marijuana dispensaries which have been attacked by the DEA.
if youre going to be Nameless, and Speechless, perhaps you should consider being Commentless too if youre not going to read what is actually being written.

i don't mean to sound like an asshole, but as of right now this blog really bites. i comment because it can be better... the premise and the demographic it covets and your staff seem like nice enough people, but there's so much room for improvement it's not even funny. maybe i don't like a mediocre blog being representative of my city, especially one where its masthead isn't representative of the city. i know you're not the l.a. times but if your blog aims to serve the entire city and all of its races and personalities with some sort of insight and historical perspective then your staff reflective of the people. any way, i don't purport to know any of you but judging by the stories you're not very different. and with that i leave you with my last anonymous comment. btw and ps: i did register before you changed your whole comment system. don't assume it's because we're scared, rather it's because we're lazy. bye now
