New Edition: A Boy Band Pushing 40
As you might have read in Tonight in Rock in LA New Edition is performing tonight at the Gibson Amphitheater. Seriously they are. The same guys who gave us "Candy Girl" as little boys nearly 25 years ago are not only still together as a group but people are still paying their hard earned money ($79.75) to watch them perform.
One fan is looking to go to show with three of their friends but doesn't want to spend any more than $30 each. That sounds like 25 too much.
Sure the boys from Boston's projects have some hits ("Mr. Telephone Man," "Cool it Now," etc.), but that was before puberty came in the night and robbed each of them of their ability to hit those high notes. Since performing these songs is pretty much out of the question, what exactly does a New Edition show consist of? Their "later stuff"?
BellBivDevo were able to throw together some hits as men, "Poison" can still rock a party but what are the other guys going to do while those three are telling the crowd to "never trust a big butt and smile"?
Anytime Bobby Brown is involved there is entertainment value, but $80 worth? But is Bobby even touring with his old chums? He obviously could use the cash, but would the other guys want to have him around on tour getting into trouble or did they kick him to the curb like Whitney did?
With this many questions surrounding their show, will there be anyone at this show?
