Tongue and Groove @ The Hotel Cafe, 1/28

Hotel cafeTongue and Groove, a monthly spoken word/music happening around town, took place tonight at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. Coordinated by Conrad Romo, who LA Weekly called "a friend to creatures both great and small", this event included readings from both unknown LA writers, and those who've been around the block, namely Mike the Poet, who has done over one hundred readings in and around LA this past year. He loves Los Angeles and isn't afraid to say it.

The set opened and closed with the rockabilly/punk band Izzy & the Eskimos and included readings from special guests David Kendrick, best known as the drummer from Devo, and Eric "Drew Barrymore's Ex" Erlandson, guitarist for Hole. Erlandson was the nights' hit, with his first poem's opening line, "She said I couldn't come in her mouth." He followed with others, both silly and sad, and my favorite, about Courtney Love and heroin. Yes, he went there folks.

What's more to love?

The next Tongue in Groove, with a new line up, is schedule for the last weekend of February -- details to be included at Tongue and Groove's MySpace page.
