Coachella - Sunday Preview

coachellacropSun.jpg

We have many fond memories from Coachellas past, but right now we're totally jealous of that Lollapalooza lineup. Sunday tickets are sold out. You'll either have to buy a two-day pass or take your chances in the secondary market.

Sunday 4/30
Tool (loads of pent up demand, but we haven’t thought about them in twelve years), Massive Attack (influential trip hop), Madonna (ugh), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (double ugh), Bloc Party (guilty pleasure, fun live show), Paul Oakenfold (hooray! a button presser), Scissor Sisters (look at us we’re androgynous!), Matisyahu (look at me, I’m a Hasidic Jew and I like reggae!), James Blunt (maybe he’ll smoke a blunt, pass out, and save you the boredom of sitting through his set), Sleater-Kinney (respect), Mogwai (great live band), Coheed and Cambria (What about the voice of Claudio Sanchez? How did it get so high?), Wolf Parade (overrated), Gnarls Barkley (Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse; kudos), Phoenix (wannabe crossover electronica), Coldcut (somebody at Goldenvoice really likes trip-hop), Digable Planets (are they considered old school yet?), Amadou & Mariam (Tim Robbins’ character in High Fidelity would be happy), Louie Vega (DJ), Mylo (DJ Set), Seu Jorge (solid, the Life Aquatic guy), Ted Leo & Pharmacists (good choice), The Go! Team (good fun stuff), Kaskade (DJ), Metric (they’ve played so many LA shows since their last album), Editors (was Interpol busy?), Art Brut (overrated, but understandable), Dungen (cool band, hopefully their live show has improved), The Dears (The Blands), Jamie Lidell (Beck’s favorite blue eyed soul singer), The Magic Numbers (overrated KCRW faves), Los Amigos Invisibles (really? more worldbeat?), Jazzanova (trip-hop). stellastarr (was Interpol busy?), Michael Mayer (club music), Murs featuring 9th wonder (hip-hop), Mates of State (miss last month's show at the Troub?), Gilles Peterson (DJ), Infadels (at the Key Club on 5/3), Gabriel & Dresden (club music), Minus the Bear (miss last month’s show @ Spaceland?), OneRepublic (they got a night off from the Key Club?), Be Your Own Pet (Thurston Moore’s favorite teens; @ the Troub on 6/27), Chris Liberator (DJ), Youth Group (did you miss their eight recent local appearances?), Giant Drag (good for them; she’s funny), Kristina Sky (putting photos of you DJ'ing CDs on your website is lame), The Octopus Project (their booker obviously deserves a raise)

Maybe save the hipper-than-thou music reviews for your Myspace page.

How did I miss a Mates of State show at the Troubadour? I thought they were on tour in the midwest with Maria Taylor all last month and Coachella is their only LA appearance. I mean, I saw them about this time last year at the Troubadour, is that the one you're thinking of?

What happened to the old credo "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?"

So I'm not the only one who thinks this guy is a whiny, annoying, pretty closed minded music critic? I cant belive LAist would even post this guys crap. Just because you're not going you don't need to whine about how far past their time or how we could of seen them at a shitty venue with bad sound and a fake LA vibe. For gods sake this guy rated Calexico 3 weeks ago as one of the weeks best albums.

This is a dour attempt at humor that fell flat on it's face. Sorry guy but you can't hold a candle to the original laist crew.

oh come on, people, lighten up. that was funny. who gives a fuck who's playing at coachella. it is true that lots of these people have played around and around la, or will be soon--which is good. it is also true that the few people i want to see on sunday are playing at the same time, good things there's a schedule out, so i think i'm staying home. but it's totally fun and everyone who can should go. though it's never been sold out before, so i wonder what that will be like...

Wow, I thought Tool had broken up or died or something.

I'll have to agree that it's not a very inspiring line-up.

HATED IT! This gal obviously hasn't listened to any of these bands and she needs to get a J-O-B.

You people need to get a life and fast! Everything this guy wrote is not only HIS opinion but the opinion of many non-top-40 nerds all around Cali. Is it too much to ask to get a line-up half as good as Lollapalooza? For that kind of money the entertainment should be 1000 times better. If you guys had half a clue you would realise this.

I don't know who this Dave Logan guy is, but his opinions are spot on and hi-larious. Right on soul brother!

Didn't we already address this Mr. Logan? You are so cool to so over everything.

The line-up sucks but then so does his writing. That is all.
