An Odyssey for The Iliad

iliadmural.jpg

Upon rolling up to The Iliad yesterday for our bi-monthly scouring of the stacks, we had a shock: a "For Lease" sign on the front of the store!

The Iliad—conveniently located next door to The Odyssey in North Hollywood—is our favorite bookshop, filled to the brim with used and rare treasures. For those who have never been, they specialize in literature and the arts, including probably the most amazing selection of sci-fi, fantasy and horror anywhere (in our opinion). No more Iliad? No way!

We were soon soothed by the news that they are not closing, but merely moving from the Vineland shop to a new storefront at Chandler and Cahuenga sometime in early March. But what about the distinctive mural gracing the front of the shop? Whither shall it go?

The word from the shop is that a new mural will be painted at the Cahuenga location, preserving at least the outward charm of the establishment. We didn't ask, but we're pretty certain that Helga and Torquemada, the store cats, will be making the move, as well.

For those interested in future news on the move, you can sign up for The Iliad's mailing list here.

Holy cow, I almost had a heart attack. That's my favorite used bookstore in LA, and the BEST place to sell old books to.
