Joan Rivers was full of memorable zingers:
"My love life is like a piece of Swiss cheese; most of it's missing, and what's there stinks."
"Half of all marriages end in divorce. And then there are the really unhappy ones."
"When a man has a birthday, he takes a day off. When a woman has a birthday, she takes at least three years off."
The trailblazing comic died yesterday. She was 81 years old.
Fellow standup Kathleen Madigan says that Joan Rivers was the first comic she ever paid to go see.
She once asked Rivers, "What's the biggest mistake young comedians make?"
"She said, 'They spend too much time focusing on who doesn't want them. And getting angry about that.' And then she said, 'Eff them and move on.' And I think that's good advice in life, not just for standup comedians... Just move on. She just kept moving."
