POM Wonderful on defense in one court case, on offense in another

This October 19, 2010 photo illustration shows a bottle of POM Wonderful pomegranate juice. If the claims are to be believed, pomegrante juice can change your life: prevent prostate and breast cancer, protect against heart disease and even alleviate erectile dysfunction. Could it be the elixir from the original fruit of the Garden of Eden ? Not so fast, says the US government, which is suing the group POM Wonderful for making false and deceptive claims about its juice and supplements derived from it. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said in a complaint filed in September the juice and supplements firm made "false and unsubstantiated claims that their products will prevent or treat heart disease, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction." The case sets up a high-profile battle between the maker of the popular juice and authorities over the claims of a superfood.
