According to a Bay Area News Group investigative report, 944 guns have gone missing from a number of Bay Area, state and federal law enforcement agencies since 2010.
Firearms seized during a sweep by the Los Angeles Police Department using the California's Armed Prohibited Persons System initiative. The program uses a database to identify gun owners who are no longer allowed to possess a firearm.

It puts the tally at 944 guns that have gone missing from a number of Bay Area, state and federal law enforcement agencies since 2010.

After two high-profile murders involving stolen police-issued guns in the Bay Area last year, new policies and regulations are being considered.
