If lawmakers don't tackle these issues by Friday, they'll have to pick them back up in 2018 when they return to session.

But they have a long list of bills to vote on this week and lots of pressure to get stuff done. Whatever doesn't get addressed will not be taken up again until lawmakers return to session in the new year.

That list includes a bill that would declare California a sanctuary state, as well as a package of bills designed to address the state's housing crisis.
