“Wonder Woman” (PG-13)

Christy: See it

“This is the Wonder Woman origin story and it is thrilling…. it’s beautifully acted, thrillingly shot, it’s emotional in unexpected ways. And Gal Gadot and Chris Pine have just tremendous chemistry with each other.”

Wade: See it

“Very smart they swapped World War I in for World War II from the original origin story. Chris Pine is terrific in just a supporting part, but it’s Gal Gadot’s movie…. she’s a super star and she just makes this movie.”

“Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” (PG)

Charles: Meh

“Our second origin story, which I did not care for. I found it frenetic and hyper and kind of junk-food filmmaking.”

Christy: See it

“I loved it. I had a blast. It is zippy, zany. It’s fun to look at, [the] different kinds of animation. But it’s also very clever and very sweet.”

“Handsome Devil” (Unrated)

Christy: See it

“It’s an Irish, gay boarding-school dramedy, where rugby is king. The two young actors have great chemistry as unlikely friends. I like this a lot.”

Charles: See it

“I also enjoyed it. What could easily have been a very cliché kind of story [the filmmaker] finds a fresh take on. The chemistry between the two actors is terrific…. thoroughly enjoyable film.”

“Past Life” (Unrated)

Wade: See it

“Terrific Israeli drama set in the 1970s. Two sisters from very different backgrounds: one is a musician, one is a journalist. And they discover something in the history of their Holocaust-surviving father and that causes them to undertake a rather fascinating investigation of his past that goes into all kinds of fascinating directions. Really a great film.”

Christy: See it

“The two actresses have really great chemistry. They are both distinctly drawn, these characters. It’s a mystery, but also a very gripping family drama.”
