I’m not your parent, I’m your partner.
Are you the one constantly reminding your partner to put their dish in the sink? Or schedule their doctors appointments because otherwise they'd forget? Or having to remind them of their friend's birthday? Oftentimes, romantic relationships can feel a lot like parenting. Sometimes it’s nice to do things for our partner, but it can become exhausting if it’s a constant back and forth. Today on AirTalk, we talk about parenting our significant others. We want to hear from you! Are you the parent in the relationship? What’s the responsibility you are always reminding your partner to do? If you are the “child” in the relationship, how do these reminders make you feel? Give us a call at 866-893-5722 or email us at atcomments@laist.com. Joining us is Victoria Soneff, marriage and family therapist associate at LifeBloom Therapy, a mental health service in Palms.
LAHSA annual count reports drop in homelessness for a second consecutive year
Los Angeles County’s unhoused population declined slightly for the second year in a row, according to authorities responsible for the region’s annual point-in-time homeless count. Results of the 2025 event, released Monday, show homelessness dropped by 3.4% in the city of L.A. and by 4% countywide, according to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, or LAHSA. That includes the number of people in shelters and those sleeping outdoors. Last year, LAHSA reported smaller declines over the previous year in both the city and county — 2.2% and less than 1% (.27%), respectively. Joining us to discuss this year’s report Aaron Schrank, health and housing reporter for LAist and Nithya Raman, Los Angeles city councilmember representing District 4.
As Superman soars at the box office, a look at his past flights
Director James Gunn took a number of risks with the rendition of the iconic hero he offered audiences in Superman, namely that those entering the movie theater would already have some working understanding of the character. It’s a solid bet — the character has been around for nearly 90 years, and every generation in those decades has had multiple versions of the character to find themselves attached to. He’s been the protagonist of comics, novels, television series, and (of course) many a movie. Joining AirTalk today to discuss the many lives Superman has lived is Bob Greenberger, co-author of Superman: The Definitive History. We also want to hear from you! What’s your favorite version of America’s favorite flying guy? Maybe it’s the version you saw on screen growing up, or reading about as a kid! Give us a call and tell us about it at 866-893-5722 or you can email us at atcomments@laist.com.
What makes a person cool? New research tries to better understand the criteria
There’s a new study, recently published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology that seeks to understand what being “cool” actually means. Could there actually be a scientific explanation to Samuel L. Jackson’s swagginess? Or the “it” factor that Charli XCX seems to personify? That’s what a team of researchers attempted to measure in a survey that asked nearly 6,000 participants from around the world what they believed “cool” meant. And does the meaning of “cool” vary across cultures? Joining us today on AirTalk is Professor of Marketing at the University of Arizona and one of the authors of the new study, Caleb Warren. We also want to hear from you. What do you perceive as “cool” and who epitomizes that in your book? David Bowie? Kristen Stewart? Tennis great Roger Federer?
