Still at 0% containment, Mountain Fire in Ventura continues charge toward ocean

Multiple wildfires broke out Wednesday propelled by strong Santa Ana winds, the largest and most dangerous is in Ventura County where the sheriff has issued a Local Emergency Proclamation and requested Governor Gavin Newsom proclaim a State of Emergency to activate additional assistance. Conditions this dangerous — gusty, dry and widespread — haven't been seen since 2020, according to the National Weather Service. Conditions are reminiscent of what we saw during the devastating Woolsey Fire in 2018 which ignited almost exactly 6 years ago on Nov. 8. Joining us this morning on AirTalk with the latest updates on the fire is Jacob Margolis, LAist science reporter and Ariel Cohen, Meteorologist In Charge of the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard.

How are high school history curriculums changing? A new report surveys the teachers.

A new report from the American Historical Association asks the question “What are kids being taught?” The question comes during a politically divisive time in which both “sides” of the political spectrum are leveling criticisms at the other. The fear is that kids are being indoctrinated into learning a certain version of history. But is there empirical evidence to support these accusations waged by both left-leaning and right-leaning people? The aim of this study was to settle that question and the findings might surprise you. Joining us today on AirTalk is Nick Kryczka, former research coordinator at the American Historical Association and an author of the report and Daisy Martin, director of The History & Civics Project at UC Santa Cruz.
