LA high schoolers react to the 2024 election on LAist’s Imperfect Paradise
The 2024 presidential election is perhaps one of the most consequential elections in modern US history. But for some Angelenos who were eager to participate, though just shy of voting age, they had no choice but to watch and cheer from the sidelines. In the latest episode of LAist’s studio’s Imperfect Paradise podcast, the team follows three Los Angeles high school students — progressive Lucia, conservative Alexander, and moderate Joseph — as they navigate the lead-up to and the results of the 2024 Presidential election. The students, too young to vote themselves, share how they’ve grown into their political ideologies, critique the two major party candidates, and reflect on what the outcome of the election means to them and their future. Joining us today to discuss the recent episode is Antonia Cereijido, host of LAist Studios Imperfect Paradise. Are you a high school student who couldn’t vote in this past election? We want to hear from you! How has the outcome of the election impacted your views on the future? Give us a call at 866-893-5722 or email us at atcomments@laist.com.

Sexual health care has never been easier--the risks and benefits of at-home STI tests
Advancements in STI testing and treatment has come a long way. The FDA approved the first at-home syphilis test back in August and the first at-home collection kit for chlamydia and gonorrhea last year. And at-home tests for HIV have existed for over a decade now. Medicine has even given way for preventative medication, most notably the drug PrEP which helps prevent the contraction of HIV. Although vaccines have been available to help prevent sexually transmitted infections for some time, PrEP offers a daily oral option. But how accurate are these at-home tests? And with all of these options to protect yourself from STIs, is the common condom becoming obsolete?
Today on AirTalk, we'll discuss the recent advancements in sexual health with Lao-Tzu Allan-Blitz MD, specialist of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. If you have questions about STI tests or treatment give us a call at 866-893-5722 or email us at atcomments@laist.com.
