Arcadia officials have been trapping and killing coyotes after a major fire in the area pushed the wildlife out of the woods and into neighborhoods last year. At present, fifteen coyotes have been snared and unceremoniously road runnered with officials defending the practice saying they have, "taken necessary steps to protect residents," according ABC Local.

Unemployment benefits are set to expire for many today and 2 million people are expected to lose unemployment benefits by Christmas without another extension by Congress, says the U.S. Labor Department. KTLA reports, "the pending loss of benefits will affect up to 450,000 jobless in CA alone," who receive on average $300 per week. A federal appeals court has overturned the conviction of Bobby Joe Maxwell accused of killing ten people on L.A.'s skid row in 1978 and 1979. "The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Tuesday ordered a new trial for Bobby Joe Maxwell, saying his 1984 conviction was based largely on the false testimony of an 'infamous' jailhouse snitch," reports KTLA.

Get caught jaywalking in DtLA and $191 is gonna race by your bank account faster than that unregistered car going the wrong way on 5th. As reported last week in the Downtown News, the LAPD is taking a zero-tolerance approach to jaywalkers, especially in the Historic Core.

The "cash-strapped" Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be reducing service and eliminating nine of its bus lines starting Dec. 12. Five Metro Rapid lines and four local lines will be affected and service will be reallocated to other other lines along the same routes. Some Saturday and Sunday service will be canceled as well.
