An infant had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment after she nearly drowned in a toilet. The baby girl, whose age has been given as being between six months and a year, was with an older sibling when she tumbled head first into the toilet in the bathroom of a home in Sun Valley.

Police in Torrance are investigating a double murder-suicide at a high rise building that serves as a senior citizen residence. The shooting occurred shortly after noon in Golden West Tower at 3510 Maricopa Street, Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt said.

In a second and deciding vote taken today, the Los Angeles City Council has approved placing a half-cent sales tax hike on the March ballot. Aimed at countering a $216 million deficit in the 2013-14 fiscal year city budget, the proposed tax increase is anticipated to bring in up to $215 million in revenue.
