  • Tonight Pennsylvania-bred experimental folk rock outfit Akron/Family will be performing at McCabe's, joining forces with Ben Harper and Howlin' Rain (LAist Review) for a "Tribute to Chris Darrow." LA's finest pop rockers the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) are poised to grace the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice. And, lastly, local indie rock act the Flying Tourbillon Orchestra (LAist Review, #2) will be headlining the Dakota Live Music Lounge in Santa Monica. But we strongly suggest heading over to Machine Project in Echo Park to catch the launch of Learning Music's Music Monthly, a collaborative, subscription based album-a-month series. Bring a small instrument and prepare to jam with the man behind Learning Music, soft-spoken virtuoso John Wood.
  • Tonight Canadian folk rock singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright will be performing at the Getty. Recent Apple commercial inductees, LA-based indie pop duo the Submarines are poised to headline the Troubadour with the Morning Benders and the Mumlers in tow. And, lastly, famed punk rock front man, X's John Doe will be rocking out at the Largo at the Coronet. But we strongly suggest heading over to the El Rey Theatre to catch Syracuse-bred indie rockers Ra Ra Riot. Auckland-based indie pop outfit Cut Off Your Hands (Review) are slated to kick things off.
  • Last week LAist contributing photographer Benjamin Hoste documented a wild, circus-like extravaganza. We are, of course, referring to the Of Montreal (LAist Review) show at the Glass House in Pomona. LA-based rapper Busdriver (LAist Review) kicked off the show, letting out his signature, sinuous flow with none other than local electronic mastermind Nosaj Thing on the decks. But now, without further ado, we present Hoste's strikingly singular images.
  • Over the past few years LA's vibrant photography scene has simply flourished. The images have become tantamount to, if not greater than, the words they generally accompany. And thus, it's safe to assume that at one point or another you've come across the spectacular work of Jeff Koga, Benjamin Hoste and Simon Cardoza.
  • Tonight Baltimore-based psych rockers Animal Collective will conclude their sold-out two-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box, effectively making up for the prior cancellations. Local producer/multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Review) is poised to jam with friends at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, LAist favorites Mike Watt & the Secondmen will be headlining Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch local alt-rock heroes Everest (LAist Review, #2). LA-based pop rock outfit the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) are slated to kick things off.
  • Tonight Baltimore-based psych rockers Animal Collective will be making up for last month's canceled show at the Henry Fonda Music Box. Hometown noise rock heroes HEALTH are finally back in town, rocking out at the Echo. And, lastly, San Diegan instrumentalists Tristeza will be playing at Bordello with OC's own garage rockers the Growlers. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch Mississippi-bred ukulele maestro Dent May (LAist Interview). The New Pornographers' front man AC Newman is poised to headline.
  • Tonight famed punk rock front man, X's John Doe will be performing at Bordello for "A Tribute to Scott Walker." Athens-bred grunge rockers Dead Confederate are poised to headline Spaceland. And, lastly, Dublin's own folk pop outfit the Guggenheim Grotto will be gracing the Hotel Café. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Airliner in the out-outskirts of Downtown to catch electronic whiz Nosaj Thing. LAist favorite Daedelus is slated to perform as well.
  • When reminiscing upon a home-cooked meal with five fresh-faced, Silver Lake transplants, it donned upon me: Perseverance is all the Local Natives have ever known. The sort of bullish tenacity that veers dangerously close to thickheadedness because you end up living not only yours, but someone else's dream. Their passion simply knows no bounds.
  • Tonight Seattle-based indie rock outfit Modest Mouse will be performing at the Hollywood Palladium with the OC's own Japanese Motors. Mexican electro rockers Kinky are poised to headline the Henry Fonda Music Box. And, lastly, San Franciscan singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards will be concluding her month-long residency at Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch NY-based indie rockers French Kicks.
  • Tonight Birmingham-bred singer-songwriter Maria Taylor (LAist Interview) will be performing at the Echoplex for 826LA's Tiny Vaudeville. Local indie rock outfit Le Switch are poised to conclude their residency at Spaceland with the Radar Bros. in tow. And, lastly, experimental folk rockers Avi Buffalo will be gracing the Echo with His Orchestra. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Silver Lake Lounge to catch the final night of Local Natives' residency.
