  • Coachella will be taking place today at Empire Polo Field | Photo by Joey Maloney for LAist Let's face it: Picking and choosing from the Coachella bill can be as daunting as sitting down at the Cheesecake Factory—the choices are multitudinous and, quite often, overwhelming. So we took it upon ourselves to narrow the pool down for you, offering up some suggestions for a thoroughly enjoyable Coachella experience. And, lastly, to live vicariously through...
  • Tonight Huntington Beach-based metalcore outfit Avenged Sevenfold will be headlining Nokia Theatre in Downtown. Akron's crown jewel, blues rock duo the Black Keys are poised to take on the Glass House in Pomona. And, lastly, Canadian indie rockers Born Ruffians will be gracing the Echo with LAist favorites Local Natives (LAist Review) in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock to catch Long Beach-based Crystal Antlers (LAist Review).
  • Tonight Denver-bred Grammy Award-winning neo soul singer India.Arie will be taking on Club Nokia in Downtown. "The Boss" is poised to headline the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Brooklyn-based dance punk duo Matt & Kim will be rocking the Santa Monica Pier for free. And, lastly, local chanteuse Nicole Simone will be gracing Home Restaurant in Silver Lake. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hollywood Palladium to catch English indie rockers Bloc Party (LAist Review). LAist favorites, Portland's own experimental rock outfit Menomena (LAist Review) are slate to kick things off.
  • Tonight Brooklyn's crown jewel TV on the Radio (LAist Review) will be headlining the Glass House in Pomona. Moldy Peaches front woman Kimya Dawson is poised to headline the Troubadour. And, lastly, local chanteuse Eleni Mandell will be gracing the relatively newfangled Grammy Museum in Downtown. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet's Little Room to catch Lavender Diamond front woman Becky Stark.
  • Tonight St. Albans-based dance pop outfit Friendly Fires (LAist Review) will be performing for a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour with Hockey in tow. LAist favorites the Henry Clay People (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) are poised to take on Spaceland with the Broken West (LAist Review). Local afro-centric pop rockers Fool's Gold will be gracing the Echo as a party of a stellar bill that includes Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, as well as Glasser. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock to catch Oregonian singer-songwriter Richard Swift. San Franciscan folk rockers Vetiver are slated to headline.
  • This week Denver-bred Grammy Award-winning neo soul singer India.Arie will be gracing Club Nokia in Downtown. St. Albans-based dance-pop outfit Friendly Fires (LAist Review) are poised to perform to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Brooklyn's crown jewel TV on the Radio (LAist Review) will be headlining the Glass House in Pomona. And, lastly, English indie rockers Bloc Party (LAist Review) will be taking on the Hollywood Palladium with LAist favorites Menomena (LAist Review) in tow.
  • Tonight San Franciscan folk rockers Vetiver will be taking on a two-night stint at the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock with none other than Oregon-based singer-songwriter Richard Swift. London-based electro-pop duo La Roux are slated to headline the Roxy with LAist favorite, local instrumental duo El Ten Eleven. And, lastly, around mid-day LA-based country troubadour Mike Stinson will be gracing Redwood Bar & Grill. But we strongly suggest trekking all the way out to the Glass House to catch local buzz band Silversun Pickups, who are poised to release their forthcoming sophomore effort Swoon this coming Tuesday.
  • Tonight Canadian poet, novelist and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen will be concluding a two-date stint at Club Nokia in Downtown. LAist favorites the Happy Hollows are poised to headline the Regent Theatre with a slew of like-minded Los Angelenos, including Devon Williams, Rainbow^Arabia and Blank Blue, to benefit local radio station KXLU. Local indie rockers Anglos will be ringing in their debut EP at El Cid with Go West Young Man. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet. Not only will recently-reunited Jayhawks' front men Mark Olson and Gary Louris be gracing the main room with Teddy Thompson, but Boston-based ex-Candy Butcher front man Mike Viola will be playing in the Little Room.
  • The Flat Duo Jets, a legendary yet diminutive rockabilly band from Carrboro, North Carolina plagued by naiveté and drug-usage, will forever remain under the radar. Prolific and tremendously influential acts like these will be respected by a select few and tucked away in the bottomless vat of musical history. And although their existence, as well as their untimely demise, is thoroughly documented in 2008's "Two-Headed Cow," it is likely that you'll only be watching by chance. But that's not going to stop front man Dexter Romweber from trekking onward. He will never cease to wonder about the places he finds himself. Romweber's utmost force and continual failure are the very embodiment of the artist as a shapeshifter in the grand scheme of things.
  • Tonight Canadian poet, novelist and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen will be taking on a two-date stint at Club Nokia in Downtown. Scottish pop rockers Travis are poised to headline the Wiltern with LAist favorites the Republic Tigers (LAist Interview) in tow. As always, local producer/multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion (LAist Review) will be jamming with friends at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, Winnetka-bred experimental beat-maker Flying Lotus will be gracing the Echoplex. But we strongly suggest stopping by Spaceland to check out Israeli shock rock troupe Monotonix (LAist Review).
