Stories by Jimmy Bramlett

  • No Dwight Howard, no Kobe Bryant, no interest. It didn't really matter that the Lakers lost to the Portland Trail Blazers 93-75 especially since from the sound of the outrage on the interweb the only people who witnessed the game were the people at Citizen's Bank Arena in Ontario.
  • While the Southland blisters in the expected heatwave, Carmageddon II forces people to become stationary and the Dodgers continue to flail away against the Colorado Rockies, Saturday is a big bang of events as Santa Anita opens their Autumn Meet which culminates with The Breeders' Cup World Championships on Nov. 2 and 3.
  • From the hardwood to the glossy pages of a fashion magazine, Chris Paul is expanding his profile. "I realize that I'm not going to be doing interviews for the cover of GQ for the rest of my life, know what I mean," Clippers point guard Chris Paul told Steve Marsh in GQ's October "Big Fall Style Playbook" Issue which goes on sale on newsstands nationwide on September 25.
  • With the FYF Fest distracting my plans for the first college football Saturday, I’m diving head first into this week’s slate of games. So there is no Michigan-Alabama this week. Wasn't that a shit-show anyhow?
  • With the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres tied at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning, manager Don Mattingly took Luis Cruz out of the game as part of a double switch. To quote Mattingly from before the game: "We can talk about the bullpen and the guys we don't have, but at the end of the day we haven't done enough offensively."
  • In their preview of the 2012 season, ESPN had 50 of their writers and personalities make predictions of division winners, wild card teams, pennant winners and World Series champions.
  • Last night's speculation did turn out to be true, mostly. The important part was that the Lakers landed Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic. That much was true.
  • The end might be near. Then again, knowing how this has been festering over the past year or so, the end might not be near. Nevertheless ESPN is reporting that a four-team trade will finally result in Dwight Howard becoming a Laker.
  • Due to popular demand, the Dodgers have added a Hello Kitty tote bag as a giveaway on Sept. 5 against the San Diego Padres. The first 30,000 fans will receive the tote bag.
  • Photo by cindyvazquez-zavala via the LAist Featured Photos pool on Flickr. Detroit Tigers defeat LA Angels 8-6. One would never had mistaken the pitching matchup of Rick Porcello and Ervin Santana as a pitchers' duel. With the Tigers holding a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning Mike Trout tied the game with an RBI single, but the Angels weren't done. Torii Hunter hit a two-run double and Albert Pujols' double added another run as...
  • LA Angels defeat New York Yankees 10-8. The Angels just can't make things easy on themselves. They had the 10-5 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning with Ernesto Frieri on the mound. Frieri had not given up a run since being acquired by the Angels in early May.
  • It was an inopportune time for the Dodgers to have a lazy Sunday afternoon. They just came off of a game where closer Kenley Jansen fell asleep on the mound forgetting to call timeout leading to the tying and winning runs to score with two outs in the top of the ninth. The Dodgers on Sunday committed a season-high five errors as the Padres won 7-2.
