Panda cub Xiao Liwu is enjoying his new present: a rubbery green ball. The veterinarians at the San Diego Zoo took out the ball as a way to test his burgeoning panda bear skills. He played with it as the vets tried to take measurements to make sure he's on track. It wasn't easy, but it was adorable.

This sounds like fun fun fun fun: Rebecca Black is playing her first concert in Orange County tomorrow night. The star of addictive but also horrible, terrible, no good, very bad "Friday" makes her debut at the House of Blues at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

California became the first state in the nation to ban therapies that claim to turn young gays straight, but now a federal court is putting the law on hold until it can determine whether it is constitutional. A three-judge panel on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an emergency order on Friday blocking the law until it can hear full arguments.

Otters are once again allowed to swim freely in the waters of Southern California once again. Twenty-five years ago otter were banned from swimming in Southern California below Point Conception in Santa Barbara County—with the exception of a colony at San Nicolas Island.
