A mountain lion kitten striking out on his own was killed Tuesday morning, while trying to cross the 405 just south of the Getty Center. The National Park Service has been following the movement of this mountain lion born in the Santa Monica Mountains in May 2010 and equipped with a GPS collar. They named him "P-18."

Now that he could be facing charges, the fisherman who reeled in a great white shark off the coast of Huntington Beach has to do something no fisherman wants to do: downplay his catch. The fisherman, Michael Castillo, is now saying that he had no idea that he was reeling in a protected species. "I was nervous, excited," Castillo told NBC Los Angeles. "I didn't know what was at the end of the hook."

A plein air painter's series on burning banks has police and bankers genuinely freaked out. They're worried, of course, that the artist in question might be a terrorist. A man driving through Watts was killed this morning after being shot in the head by an unknown sniper armed with a rifle. Police say they do not know where the shot came from.
