A surfer's body was pulled from the powerful waves pounding the shore at San Onofre State Beach yesterday afternoon. Although it's not clear from reports how exactly Yamada died, authorities are warning would-be surfers that this isn't amateur hour — be careful out there.

Two USC students were shot at party last night, after the host accused the shooter of stealing his Dr. Dre "Beats" Headphones, according to The Daily Trojan. The suspect drew a gun and shot a man and woman who had stepped in to help the host. The male victim, an undergraduate student, was seriously injured after being shot in the chest, while the woman was shot once in the hand. Both are expected to survive.

Six late-night hikers, who got lost on the Sunset Ridge Trail last night, were rescued this morning, according to the Pasadena Star-News. Four men and two women called for help at 2:30 a.m., because they had gotten lost on the trail.

A man was shot in his head while driving through Cahuenga Pass this morning, Studio City Patch reports. The shooting victim was driving north on Cahuenga Boulevard around 3:30 a.m., when he was shot through his headrest.

Sunset Junction organizers are firing back at city officials, who said they spent the entire year trying to hammer out negotiations over last year's bill before they voted to call the whole thing off.

Christin Briles, the mother of a 7-year-old boy thrown off a boat by his dad last week, is firing back at the dad who claimed it was all good, clean fun. Although Christin was not aboard the tour in Newport Harbor when the incident — and her son — went down, both of her sons have backed up the accounts of other witnesses, who said that Sloane Briles was drunk and fighting with his girlfriend before he threw his son overboard.
