One local superintendent's decision to ban a body building competition from being held school grounds during break next summer is going to get a second look, according to Monrovia Patch. The superintendent of Monrovia Unified School District Linda Wagner told West Coast Classic Bodybuilding and Figure that they couldn't hold their event on school grounds, if there were going to be any "scantily-clad women" around.

An elderly axe-murderer in the San Gabriel Valley was sentenced to 26 years in prison (given his elderly status that basically amounts to a life sentence). James Che Ming Lu, 87, was convicted in July of murdering his wife of nine years Michelle Lu, 55.

Last month, it was discovered that firefighters had allowed porn star Charley Chase to borrow their truck for a video that shows Chase flashing people around town. There was an investigation to discovered what had happened, but because of a loophole, no one was punished. So Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Brian Cummings took this as an opportunity to come clean about some racy photos of his own, according to the Los Angeles Times.

An inmate at the jail downtown died suddenly in his cell on Thursday, after a deputy had punched him in the head, according to the Los Angeles Times. Whether or not that blow to the head caused the inmate's death is something that an autopsy will determine, but the incident hasn't done anything to dispel the cloud haning over the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

California's U.S. Attorneys held a press conference today to formally announce their crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries in the state and to unveil the actions they were taking against dozens of dispensaries in the state — including several in North Hollywood and Orange County.

Fourteen people were arrested for blocking traffic at an interfaith anti-war rally protesting the tenth anniversary of the war in Afghanistan this morning, according to the Associated Press. To be fair, the group in question Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace warned us that they would be arrested this morning.

News of Steve Jobs' death spread through Twitter faster than any other event in the (admittedly brief) history of Twitter, eclipsing the recent record held by news of Beyonce's pregnancy. The social media monitoring firm SR7 expects official Twitter figures will show that in the hours after Steve Jobs' death was announced, his fans and admirers sent out 10,000 tweets per second, according to the Australian paper The Age.
