Gear Up For National Bike Month. Here’s A List Of Community Rides And More

Ditch the car and cruise through SoCal on two wheels all of May for National Bike Month.

In honor of National Bike Month, several cities and bike communities across Southern California are hosting community bike rides and e-bike expos, and Metro is offering discounts on their e-bike program.

We’ve compiled a list of events you can check out with your friends and loved ones.

San Gabriel Valley

Arcadia

  • E-asy Access Pop-Ups: May 4, 18 and every Sunday of May. Riders can head to Peck Water Conservation Park for free e-bike access from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Reserve bikes online here.

El Monte

  • E-easy Access Eco Urban Gardens Ride: Saturday, May 11, 8 a.m. — 1:30 p.m.:  Go for a ride through Jeff Seymour Family Center RSVP here.
  • E-asy Access: Santa Fe Dam Nature Center Ride — Saturday, May 25, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.: Go for a ride through Santa Fe Dam Nature Center RSVP here.

Glendora

Pasadena 

  • Bicycle Tour of Pasadena African American History: The 710 Stub on Saturday — May 11. 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. 
  • Woman of Pasadena Bike Ride, Pasadena City Hall — May 12. 2- 4 p.m. 
  • Pasadena Ride of Silence, Rose Bowl, Lot K — May 15. 6 p.m. 
    This event is in honor of bicyclists who were injured or killed while cycling. 
  • E-Bike Expo, Jefferson Park  — May 19. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 
  • Bike-in movie screening of The Engine Inside, Throop Church — May 22. 6:30 p.m - 9:30 p.m.  
  • Ice Cream Ride, Memorial Park — May 26. 1-4 p.m.

Long Beach

  • Recycle your bike — May 4. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. 
    The city of Long Beach invites you to recycle gently used bikes at several locations. For a list of locations, go here.  
  • Bixby Park to Lions Lighthouse Ride - May 11. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 
  • West side community bike ride and rodeo, Silverado Park - May 18, 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.  
  • Downtown infrastructure ride, City Hall — May 23. 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Long Beach Loop Ride, Marina Green Park — May 26. 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Beverly Hills

  • “May the 4th Be With You!” Family Bike Ride, Roxbury Park Basketball Courts — May 4. 9:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m. 
  • Free Bike Repairs and Used Bicycle Collection, Beverly Hills Farmers Market — May 19. 9 a.m. -1 p.m.

Culver City

Urban Forest Tour, Equator Coffee, Ivy station - May 9. 9:30 a.m. Join Bike Culver City for an urban forest tour, spanning 10 miles long with plenty of stops. More info here. 

Orange County

  • CicloIrvine, Barranca Parkway and Harvard Avenue — May 4. 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. 
    The city of Irvine is hosting their first Open Streets event. You can find details about the route and other festivities for the day here. 
  • OCTA  Bike Rally, Orange Metrolink Station to OCTA Headquarters — May 15. 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. 
  • E-bike Rodeo, Niguel Hills Middle School — May 18. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Bike LA is also giving out free bike lights May 8 and hosting a community ride on Vermont Avenue.

Metrolink is offering free rides to riders who bring their bikes onboard Metrolink or Arrow trains during Bike Week May 13 — May 17.

Santa Monica residents can check out the city’s e-bike voucher program. And if you live in South LA, you can rent an e-bike for free.
