Long Beach Airport to Add ADA Upgrades, Safer Crosswalks
The Long Beach Airport will perform overnight upgrades to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility for its customers on Monday.
What'll be new: The improvements include a clear, ADA-accessible path from the airport to public transportation and parking. They'll also equip crosswalks with a warning system that plays sounds to alert drivers of pedestrians. This is part of an ongoing project to improve the airport's infrastructure.
When to expect construction: The city says the bulk of the repairs will take place between 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8 and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
What officials are saying: Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry said in a statement the changes will help the airport build on its "reputation as an easygoing airport from curb to gate."
How it's funded: According to the city, the total cost of the improvement project is $16.6 million. About $10 million will be funded by the federal government's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, with the remainder covered by the Long Beach Airport's revenue.
When it'll be finished: The airport said in a statement that they'll finish the upgrades in fall 2024.
