Hollywood Boulevard’s protected bike lanes are here
Topline:
A little more than two miles of protected bike lanes are now open on Hollywood Boulevard, officials announced Thursday, the first in City Council District 13.
Why it matters: The grand opening marks the completion of the first half of the Access to Hollywood plan, which hopes to make “perhaps the most famous street in Los Angeles” more welcoming and accessible, according to Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez’s office.
Why now: Soto-Martínez will host a news conference Thursday morning to unveil the progress, along with Councilmember Nithya Raman, Laura Rubio-Cornejo, the general manager of LADOT, as well as members of the community and transportation advocates.
The details: The new bike lanes run between Gower Street and Hillhurst Avenue.
What's next: More protected bike lanes are planned for the second phase, all the way to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Orange Drive. The Walk of Fame will also get expanded sidewalks and al fresco dining opportunities.
